NewsChannel 9 has confirmed Red Bank High School fired head football coach Chad Grabowski on Friday.

Principal Elaine Harper writes to NewsChannel 9 in an email:

In a meeting with Coach Grabowski on Friday, we communicated with him that we have decided to make a change in our head football coaching position. We appreciate everything Coach Grabowski has done for the Red Bank High School football program, but we feel it is in the best interest of the program and Red Bank High to make a change at this time.

Harper further stated that "there has been no policy or legal issues in the decision to not retain Coach Grabowski as head coach."

"I assure the Red Bank family that I did not make this decision lightly and that it was done with the long-term interest of the Red Bank Lions in mind," says Principal Harper, "We will work together to find the best person to lead Red Bank’s football program and provide the best opportunities for our student-athletes."

Grabowski himself told NewsChannel 9 that the decision "definitely blindsided" him.

Grabowski coached the Lions for four years and led them to the state semifinal game this past season against Alcoa.

Prior to that, he led the Lions to back-to-back region championships.

He went on to say it was "not expected."

He remains at the school as a physical education teacher but is seeking coaching jobs.

Grabowski told NewsChannel 9 he is considering the Chattanooga area or possibly the Atlanta area.

NewsChannel 9 is working to get more details about this developing story. Depend on us for updates as we get them.
