An intense rivalry happens Friday at Harmon Field in Dalton.

Northwest Whitfield makes the short trip for our Friday Night Rivals Game on CW Chattanooga.

The Bruins are growing in confidence, while the Catamounts search for leadership.

Calhoun shut out Dalton 24-0 last Friday.

The Catamounts aren't used to that after their banner season last year. Coach Matt Land is looking for better results this week. "I like to think as we prepared this week, as we work through this week, that we will become more mature."

Dalton lost a ton of seniors last year.

It was a star-studded class.

Coach Land says in some battles, his squad was physically out-manned last week.

But his main concern is mental and emotional strength. "That leaves a leadership void or vacuum when those guys leave. My pastor, this week, made a great comment. He said, 'You know, you just gotta do your best at doing your best.'"

Dalton faces an energized Northwest Whitfield (2-0) team.

Quarterback Luke Shiflett and running back Dominique Sistrunk form a dynamic duo.

Coach Josh Robinson is excited to have them in his backfield. "Luke and Dominique are a perfect marriage. Dominique is power. He wants the ball. He wants to run over people, but he has the speed to run past people. Luke is a finesse guy," Robinson said.

Robinson added his defense will try to limit the big play, and he expects a battle. He expects a rejuvenated Catamounts squad. "They're going to fix it. They're too well coached. Their kids are ingrained in too much tradition and they have a lot of talent. It's going to be a really tough time for us."

Coach Land said he expects Northwest Whitfield's best shot. "You're their game of the year. So you've got to be prepared. That's part of being at Dalton. Most people highlight you. That being the case, you've got to be prepared for their best."
