After setting out for a hike at 12PM on July 23rd, three hikers were able to safely make it home on July 24th. The Soddy Daisy Fire Department, Hamilton County Stars and Soddy Daisy police started their search on the morning of the 24th after receiving a call about the missing hikers at 11PM on the 23rd.

"The hikers were expected to be back by 6PM and one of their wives called around 11 saying she hadn't heard from them," said SDFD Cheif Guffey.

With a storm overnight, the police had to wait until morning to begin the search. Although the area that they were searching was so vast, according to Guffey, that the search was especially difficult. The area authorities were searching was about 5 miles wide.

The hikers emerged from the woods at 11AM on the 24th at the top of the mountain from the Deep Creek Trail.

Josh Legg, an avid hiker, says that he has hiked the Deep Creek Trail and while it is not necessarily an advanced trail, he wouldn't suggest it for beginners.

Legg says that there are safety precautions that should be taken prior to hiking.

"We suggest having a kit packed beforehand, with anything you could possibly need and then replacing whatever you use in that kit immediately after."

Josh says that the danger of hiking doesn't scare him at all.

"I think you're in more danger in a car or something with everyone on their cellphones these days."

Just after 11 a.m. Soddy-Daisy Police announced the hikers are "safe," and on their way back off the trail.
