Potential severe weekend weather cancels events in Chattanooga

It was a beautiful day Thursday in Chattanooga. There wasn't even a cloud in the sky.

Towards the end of the weekend though, that could change.

"It obviously doesn't look so great," said Brennen Riddle, American Cancer Society.

The ACS planned to host its annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk Sunday at Chattanooga State. However, that's changed.

"For the safety of our participants, we will postpone that until October 15. So, next Sunday," Riddle added.

This is the 6th year for the walk and the first time it has ever been postponed.

"I would say the difficulties in moving it just one week are just making sure all the vendors - like the tents, our MCs, everybody that we had coming out to make the event a success - we want to make sure that they're still available for next Sunday," Riddle said. And thankfully they all are.

The walk is only one of several events happening in Chattanooga.

Downtown, workers started setting up for the 3 Sisters Bluegrass Festival. That begins Saturday.

And over on the Walnut Street Bridge, preps were also underway for Wine Over Water. Events kick off for the event Thursday and last until Sunday.

"No matter rain or shine, we're still gonna wine," said Kyle Miller, event spokesperson.

Still, Miller warns people to come prepared.

"The bridge itself is not covered. So, if you are gonna come, bring a rain jacket [and] check the weather," he said.

Organizer Shannon Burke of the City Celebration and Ciclovia event also tells us they are postponing this weekend's events due to the storm. It has now been rescheduled to October 29th.
