The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) is investigating after a bus hit a woman while on the way to pick up students at Dade County Middle School Tuesday afternoon.

The accident happened near South Main Street/Highway 11 in Trenton.

Dade County School Superintendent Dr. Jan Harris says it's unclear how the incident happened, but no children were on the bus when it happened.

Harris says students at Dade County Middle School were put on another bus home.

The GSP says the elderly woman was crossing State Road 136/White Oak Gap Road when the driver turned left onto the road and hit her.

The GSP says the woman taken to Erlanger in critical condition.
