The total solar eclipse is four days away, and many kids in our area will be off school that day.

If you want to take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity, there are many places in Chattanooga where can you take your children to give them an educational experience during the eclipse.

The roof top of the Creative Discovery Museum is popular place for fun.

On Monday, they have big plans.

"Since schools were closed, it kind of created a great opportunity for us to have an especially busy Monday," said Kyrstin Hill, Creative Discovery Museum Public Relations Coordinator.

She says they wanted to a throw a party and next eclipse day seemed like the perfect day.

"We are a children's museum and we do focus on science, so it made a lot of sense. We're all really excited here because we're all science people," said Hill.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. there will be activities going on.

You can enjoy solar snacks on the roof top, participate in a solar dance party in the atrium and watch a NASA live stream of the eclipse in the auditorium.

"They can view the solar eclipse and how it works going across the country in a very safe manor," Hill added.

Over at the Tennessee Aquarium, they're also offering eclipse options for families.

You can go there to watch the NASA live stream with an aquarium admission.

"NASA has 57 balloons. They have three aircraft. They have scientists that will be narrating this," said Thom Benson, Tennessee Aquarium.

He hopes that as people watch the stream and see the transition as it approaches Chattanooga, that they'll thenhead outside the aquarium to the plaza or watch how the animals react as the moon covers the sun.

"Hopefully families will use this as a learning experience. Not just during eclipse day on Monday, but beyond that," Benson said. "I think we've got this huge interest in astronomy in science in general, so I think it's a great opportunity to really feed that."

If you do plan to go to the Creative Discovery Museum, they want people to know they are not selling or giving out solar eclipse glasses. You'll have to bring your own.

You can also bring your kids to the Chattanooga Zoo on Monday. They will host a viewing party outside that afternoon.

If kids bring their own viewing glasses, they will receive free admission.
