Murfreesboro family gets ultimate Christmas gift with heart transplant for 7-month-old son
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) —
This Christmas a family will be bringing their 7-month-old son home for the first time thanks to a heart transplant.
Nashville natives and Murfreesboro residents Mike and Brittany Urso are receiving the ultimate gift, the gift of life, this season as they finally get to bring their little boy home from Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Brayden was born in May with a Hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a rare congenital heart defect in which the left side of the heart is severely underdeveloped. Brayden was in serious need of a heart transplant to survive.
Thankfully, after 91 days on the heart transplant list, the Urso's hopes were granted on Sept. 3 and Brayden received the transplant he needed.
The Urso's are now encouraging Tennesseans to register for organ and tissue donors to help close the donation gap.
Right now, nearly 3,000 people in the Volunteer State are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant.
