CUMBERLAND (WGME) -- A Cumberland police officer went above and beyond the call of duty to help an elderly man.

Cumberland Police say Sgt. Burgess checked on an elderly man earlier this week.

Sgt. Burgess discovered that he was running low on food and had not eaten that day.

Because of this, Sgt. Burgess took it upon himself to deliver the man some food from a local food pantry and cook him dinner.

“Thank you for everything you do Sergeant, day in and day out to make our community a better place to live,” Cumberland Police wrote on Facebook.
