Video: Armed suspect talked out of suicide, sheriff says
MARION COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) —
A suspect in a domestic attack on a woman is behind bars facing charges, thanks to a K-9 deputy and his four-legged partner.
The Marion County Sheriff's Office said Deputy Jeremi Nix and K-9 Drago talked an armed man down from taking his own life.
The deputies responded to a domestic altercation on CR-25. Investigators say the suspect ran from the home after battering and choking a woman. The K-9 team tracked the suspect into the woods. The suspect, identified by the sheriff's office as Sean T. Shea, claimed he had a gun and a knife and planned to kill himself.
The sheriff's office said Deputy Nix struck up a conversation with Shea, calmed him down, and persuaded him to surrender peacefully. Shea did have a knife but no gun. He's now being held on domestic battery by strangulation at the Marion County Jail.
One side note.
As the K-9 team walked out of the woods, they accidentally stepped into a nest of yellow jackets. Both received multiple stings. After being checked out by their respective medical experts, the two are back at work.
