Someone targeted a family-owned business in Chattanooga over the weekend.

Around 6 a.m. on Sunday, there was a "smash and grab" at Griffith Cycle.

"People just aren't trustworthy," said owner Gary Griffith.

"A stolen truck came in a busted our store open and we're king of upset."

Gary was on vacation when everything happened. He said suspects stole a dark red Ford F350 Dually from Scenic City Motors and rammed through the window of the store. The suspects got away with two vehicles.

"It's an $8,000 vehicle we're missing and of course extensive damage to the building, which has been here since '67," Gary said.

"It's a real shame to have that damage done to an old building."

Gary's son, Jeff, is a manager at the shop and got there shortly after the robbery.

He said the amount of damage surprised him.

"I didn't expect to see broken glass and debris everywhere," he said.

The suspects got away with a 2018 model KTM 300 XC.

They also stole a Yamaha YZ 250F, but it fell off the back of the truck during the get away.

The Griffiths were able to recover it.

Over the years, cameras and barriers were added but it is hard to prevent things like this from happening.

"Ultimately, if someone wants to bust in and grab something, they'e going to do it," Jeff said.

"The main thing is having the surveillance. Having everything to try and catch them afterwards."

Gary and his staff are beginning to restore what they can and remain open for business.

"Adversity only makes us stronger when you overcome it," Gary said.

"So we're going to overcome this."

According to Gary, there is up to $15,000 worth of damage to the building and the missing bike is worth $8,000.

The man who owns the truck that was used in the robbery was informed by police that his truck has been recovered in Atlanta on Monday.

Three suspects have also been arrested. Their names have not been released.
