THP identifies victim in Thursday's deadly Rhea County crash

UPDATE:

Friday morning, Lt. John Harmon with the Tennessee Highway Patrol provided more details about what happened.

He identified the victim as Jerrod J. Lyons of Nashville.

He says Lyons was heading south on Highway 68 and failed to negotiate a curve. He struck an oncoming car head-on, and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Harmon says investigators will test Harmon's body for drugs and alcohol.

PREVIOUSLY:

Rhea County dispatch confirms that at least one person is dead after an accident involving a tractor trailer on Route 68 near Spring City Thursday.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) closed the road in both directions while they cleared the wreck.

The Rhea County Sheriff's Department (RCSD) advised drivers to take an alternate route.

We do not yet know how many vehicles were involved in the wreck.
