"His life has changed forever": Grundy Co. HS victim's family speaks for first time
For the first time since a 14-year-old Grundy County High School football player was attacked by fellow teammates, the family of the victim spoke with NewsChannel 9 Wednesday.
Five Grundy County High School football players were arrested and charged with attempted aggravated rape after an incident in October.
James Hargis is the victim's cousin. We spoke with him about how the family is coping with the situation.
"His life has changed forever," said Hargis. He says that the family is still shaken.
We asked him what his reaction is when he hears someone say the situation has been blown out of proportion.
In a word? Anger.
Hargis says nothing could be further from the truth, and that to imply otherwise is insulting.
"How would they feel if it was their child?" asked Hargis.
The students accused in the incident made their first court appearance on Wednesday. Judge Tim Brock placed a confidentiality order on the case, limiting access to information.
Details on what happened at the hearing may be limited. NewsChannel 9 continues to work to learn exactly what happened.
