The Chattanooga Fire Department says an oily-looking substance found at a Chattanooga apartment playground Monday is not oil, but non-toxic tannic acid.

Crews came to the property of Autumn Brook Apartments Monday.

Battalion Chief Chris Warren says the tannic acid was leaching from a mulched playground area on the property.

Warren says this is a part of natural decomposition, and that tannic acid is non-toxic and not a hazardous material.

Our NewsChannel 9 SkyCam crew captured pictures of the scene.

You can read more about tannic acid on the USDA website here.
