East Ridge police officers have arrested and charged a man with burglary after a break-in at the Haiku Hibachi on Ringgold Road.

Assistant Chief Stan Allen says the officers heard "loud thuds" in the area of Haiku Hibachi while on patrol.

After investigating, officers say the glass door of the restaurant had been broken by a large rock.

The officers say they then found 20-year-old Desmond Powell hiding under a semi-trailer. Powell was arrested and taken in for questioning.

East Ridge investigators questioned Powell about similar burglaries in the area, as the methods of those break-ins were similar to those used at the restaurant.

Allen tells us that Powell admitted to burglarizing a Valero convenience store, Sonny's convenience store, the East Ridge Games and Videos store and a fourth unidentified business.

Allen says burglary and theft warrants will be placed on Powell for each location.
