Dr. Kirk Kelly to retire from Hamilton County Schools?

Sources inside and outside the Hamilton County Department of Education told NewsChannel9 Friday afternoon that Dr. Kirk Kelly will transition to retirement after being passed over for the superintendent position Thursday.

Dr. Kelly lost the promotion by one vote to Dr. Bryan Johnson.


NewsChannel 9 reached out to Dr. Kelly Friday for comment. Dr. Kelly responded in a text message saying,

"I will explore some options but a final decision has not been made. The school calendar ends June 30th of this year."

Dr. Kelly has been interim superintendent for Hamilton County Schools in the fifteen months since Rick Smith was superintendent.
