Chattanooga Police are investigating after a person was shot on North Crest Road late Thursday night.

Police say it happened near the 180 block of North Crest Road.

Chattanooga police spokesman Rob Simmons says the person suffered non-life-threatening injuries and got help from another house on the road.

That came after the victim, 24-year-old Gary McCoy, knocked on several doors in the neighborhood in an effort to get help. Police say McCoy ultimately grabbed a lawn chair in front of one home and broke a window with it in an effort to trip a burglar alarm and get attention. The homeowners called 911 saying their home was being burglarized, and officers responded to the home to find McCoy.

McCoy was rushed to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. And officers later located the scene where he was shot.

Members of the Violent Crimes Bureau are investigating this incident and following all actionable leads.
