This weekend Chattanooga Football Club will welcome the U23 players from one of the most celebrated clubs in Liga MX history's to FORT Finley stadium Saturday, May 27th, at 7:30pm for an international friendly.
Club Deportivo Guadalajara, most commonly known as "Chivas" is one of the ten founding members of Mexico's highest level of professional soccer, Liga MX. In it's 111 year history, they have won 11 First Division titles, 7 Campeón de Campeones, 1 InterLiga, 1 Copa Challenger, 4 Copa Oros de Occidente, and 4 Copa México titles. The team will be fresh off another championship challenging campaign, having just played in the LIGA MX Final on Thursday against UANL Tigres, a team which visited Finley stadium last year for an international friendly against the boys in blue.
One Chivas player of interest is Ivan Gutierrez, a Mexican-American who played in Team USA's U17 and U20 teams before signing with Chivas and choosing to play in the Mexican National Team's youth development program.
"This is a truly great experience for our club. Our guys will be going up against some current and future soccer stars in Mexican football" said Bill Elliott, Head Coach for Chattanooga FC. "A number of these players will have played in the highest profile game in Mexico and then turn right around and come here. Our guys have been playing well and they'll be ready."
Chivas is a club that is famously known for having the most loyal fans in Mexican football, ensuring a raucous Finley Stadium.
"Chivas fans will show up, there's no doubt about that, so we need to make sure that every CFC fan joins us to sing with the Chattahooligans" said Sean McDaniel, GM for Chattanooga FC. "I cannot think of a better way to start the Memorial Day weekend than a great exhibition."
Tickets are on sale now at ChattanoogaFC.com for $10 until gameday, when the price increases to $12. In addition to the match, there will be fireworks immediately following the fan's autograph session.
