The Bradley County Sheriff's Office says a change in policy now allows off-duty deputies to drive their patrol cars to church and non-profit events.

Spokesperson James Bradford says prior policy in the general order required deputies to ask for approval.

Bradford says the change in policy was Sheriff Eric Watson's idea, in an effort to prevent violence in the community with the presence of patrol cars acting as a deterrent to crime.
