We also have an update on the recovered animals:

PREVIOUSLY:

Soddy-Daisy Police (SDP) arrested a couple and charged them with aggravated child neglect Monday after finding three boys living in horrendous living conditions.

SDP say they performed a well-being check at the home of Staci and Dustin Tallent on Francis Street in Soddy-Daisy Monday morning.

When they arrived, SDP says they found three boys (a 5-year-old, and two twin 2-year-olds) living in garbage-littered rooms. SPD say they saw many neglected animals as well.

EMS and the Humane Educational Society (HES) officers were called in. Officers say at least one child was locked in a room when they arrived.

HES officers say they also found 20 animals, 10 of them still alive but in bad shape. The dead animals were stuffed in a freezer.

Staci and Dustin Tallent were arrested at the scene. Soddy-Daisy Police charged the couple with aggravated child neglect.

HES also says that at the minimum, the couple will be charged with animal neglect.

SDP says the children were taken to a local hospital, and the animals were taken to the Humane Education Society.

HES confirmed two turtles were found dead in the home, and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) also responded to the scene.

One officer told our reporter "I've never seen anything like this."

As of Tuesday morning, both Tallents remain in custody. Staci Tallent is at Silverdale. Dustin Tallent is at the Hamilton County Jail on a $105,000 bond.
