If you live in a county that touches Bradley, the lines at your courthouse may be a little longer over the next few days.

County leaders say the Bradley County courthouse will likely be closed until the beginning of next year because of a fire this weekend.

The entrances to the courthouse are taped off, with signs that explain the fire damage.

Now, County officials are scrambling to set up places for people to register new cars, get a marriage license or file for a passport.

Jeff Gunter with Bradley County EMA says only a few employees wearing masks were allowed into the courthouse Tuesday.

"The only thing we are doing right now is pulling files and computers out of here to relocate all the offices into different locations," he said.

From the NewsChannel 9 skycam, it's not obvious, but Gunter the weekend fire spread smoke all throughout the building, and right now everything inside is covered in soot.

"It doesn't look bad, it smells bad, and everything needs cleaned up in here," he said.

Shala Garcia is one of many people who found the closing signs when she arrived Tuesday.

"I came down to the courthouse to change my tags because they expired Friday," she said.

The County says it's trying to set up offices around Cleveland to take care of that kind of business, but it's just going to take a few days.

"Getting everybody to different locations is the biggest thing- hauling everything over there and all that," Gunter said.

So, Garcia had to load her kids back in the car and head south to Hamilton County.

"It's pretty inconvenient," she said. "This is so close to our house. It's less than 10 minutes away and going somewhere else, especially when I'm dragging around two kids with me, is just kind of inconvenient."

The Bradley County EMA has all of the relocations so far posted to its Facebook page.
